The ongoing Maha Kumbh 2025 is one of the largest spiritual gatherings in the world, attracting millions of devotees from around the globe. The sacred event, which started on Paush Purnima (January 13), will continue until Mahashivratri on February 26, 2025. This year, the event gained additional significance with the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, where he took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati river. This visit showcased the nation’s deep spiritual roots and highlighted the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure at religious sites.

PM Modi’s Spiritual Connection at the Triveni Sangam

On February 5, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Prayagraj to partake in the Mahakumbh, a sacred occasion that draws people from all walks of life. Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Modi performed the ritual of taking a holy dip in the Ganga. Dressed in a saffron jacket and blue track pants, with rudraksha beads around his neck, Modi’s participation in the ritual reflected a deep personal and national connection to the country’s spiritual legacy.

After the dip, he performed ‘aarti’ on a specially constructed floater in the middle of the river, offering milk and flowers to the holy waters, symbolizing his devotion and commitment to India’s ancient traditions. His act of performing prayers to Maa Ganga underscored the importance of protecting the nation’s rich spiritual heritage.

The significance of the Maha Kumbh cannot be overstated. It is a moment where faith, devotion, and spirituality converge, drawing millions to the holy site. Prime Minister Modi’s participation in such a monumental occasion was a message of unity, devotion, and the importance of upholding India’s spiritual identity.

Infrastructure and Development at Maha Kumbh 2025

The 2025 Maha Kumbh has not only been a moment for spiritual immersion but also a showcase of the government’s efforts to improve facilities at religious sites. Before his visit, on December 13, 2024, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated 167 development projects worth ₹5,500 crore aimed at enhancing connectivity, amenities, and services for pilgrims. These developments focus on improving infrastructure in the region, ensuring smooth transportation, and upgrading public facilities for the growing number of devotees.

The UP government, under the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath, has made extensive arrangements for the safety and convenience of the pilgrims. With over 3.748 million devotees already taking a holy dip by 8 AM on February 5, the level of devotion at the Triveni Sangam is unprecedented. Security forces from various organizations such as PAC, CRPF, BSF, and CISF have been deployed to ensure the safety of devotees.
